Why we picked it

We like them because toasting brings out all their character: a few minutes in a dry frying pan turns the seeds into a warm seasoning with citrusy, toasted notes, and you then grind just as much as you need.

About the product

Coriander (Coriandrum sativum) is a plant in the parsley family (Apiaceae), and its seeds — small, round and ridged — have a warm, sweetish and citrusy taste, different from that of the fresh leaves. The aroma comes from their essential oils, and whole seeds keep it until you toast and grind them.

Taste and aroma

Tasting notes

Warm, sweet and citrusy flavour, with a subtle floral note.

How to use it

  • Lightly toast the seeds in a dry frying pan until fragrant, then grind them fresh for curries, spice blends (garam masala) or marinades.
  • Add whole or lightly crushed seeds to the brine for homemade pickles, for a subtle citrusy flavour.
  • Use freshly ground coriander in dishes with meat, fish, vegetables, soups and stews.
  • Toasted, crushed seeds also go well in homemade bread or other baked goods.

Storage

Keep the whole seeds in a tightly closed container, in a cool, dry place away from light. Whole, they keep their aroma much longer than ground coriander; grind only the amount you need.

Keep somewhere dry and dark. Whole spices (seeds, sticks) hold their aroma far longer than ground ones.
