Încă din Antichitate, cimbrul a fost folosit în zona mediteraneană drept condiment, iar în Evul Mediu timpuriu călugării benedictini l-au adus în Europa Centrală şi Anglia, unde şi-a început vocaţia ca plantă medicinală. „Această plantă este un aromatic difuziv plăcut, stimulent şi relaxant, cu efect carminativ şi emenagog uşor.
