Lucrarea Gray’s Supplement to the Pharmacopoei a (1848) consemnează despre fructele de anason: „sunt stomahice , carminative, diuretice şi emenagoge; […] sunt folosite pentru a calma flatulenţa, durerile colicative, în special la copii; mamele care alăptează le iau uneori pentru a stimula secreţia lactată; au fost utilizate de asemenea în afecţiuni pulmonare”.
