Presentation materials 📖 Consumer leaflet The name bergamot comes from that of the small Italian town of Bergamo in the province of Lombardy, where the fruits of this tree were known and consumed. Medieval writings mention its use for therapeutic purposes, in Florence. In that same period the first extractions of this essential oil were also carried out in Italy, and the oil soon became an important raw material in perfumery. It is the main constituent of the famous perfume created in the 18th century in Cologne, which has become famous all over the world, to this day, under the name of Eau de Cologne.
